Fashion Design & Illustration

I am a 2018 Washington University in St. Louis graduate with a BFA in Fashion Design and a minor in Philosophy. My research focuses primarily on the ethical and environmental challenges within the fashion industry, as well as on textile manipulation and contemporary design.

I consider my aesthetic to be the crossroads between the rich textures found in nature, contrasted against the sculptural lines of architecture photography. Creating versatile wardrobe staples that seamlessly transition throughout busy schedules, I strive to incorporate interesting details, luxurious fabric stories, and most importantly, comfortable and wearability.

Between growing up in rural Ohio, and frequently traveling with my family to a number of National Parks throughout my childhood, the obscure beauty of the outdoors has left a lasting impression in my designs. Through various textile manipulations, such as felting, beading, and laser cutting, I constantly explore methods of expressing the unique irregularities of natural textures and surfaces. Resolving the gap between contemporary wearability and the beauty of handmade pieces is a challenge that I often incorporate into my work; I believe that every traditional technique can be translated and appreciated in modern looks, given the right application.

One of the overarching concerns in my design process, is consideration for conscious design. Much of my work is influenced by my ongoing interest and experimentation with reducing my footprint as a designer. From using natural dyes to color some of my fabrics, to sourcing locally and ethically whenever possible, to constructing some projects entirely out of remnants, the path towards more conscious design is one I find both challenging and exciting, and hope to continue to explore in the future.
